Bad News
Sometimes we have to tell someone some bad news.
We also call this ‘breaking’ bad news.
You can start by gently introducing the topic with one of these phrases:
‘…Unfortunately’
‘…I’m afraid’
‘I’m sorry but’
‘I’m sorry to tell you this but…’
‘I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news…’
‘I don’t know how to tell you this but …’
And then you can ‘break’ the news:
… I can’t come to your party.
… you did not pass the test.
… I have to cancel our date.
...I crashed your car.
