Art from money: collages made out of cut up dollar bills by Latvian artist Irina Truhanova
Finding a way to make money out of art has, for some artists, been their sole motivation but for a 22-year-old Latvian artist it is her inspiration. Irina Truhanova makes art out of money. Tearing, ripping and cutting up real dollar bills she creates collages which sell for hundreds of dollars
She explains: "Once I have an idea of how the picture will look I can select parts of real dollar bills and cut them out. These small fragments are bought together to form the whole image." Here is her portrait of Russian Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin
Russian president Dmitry Medvedev
"I wanted to create mosaics that personified freedom, independence, business and capital, and using real U.S. currency seemed to fit this perfectly."
"I received requests for commissions very quickly and within a few months I realised I could stop using my office job to make money and support myself by making money pictures full-time."
"I first showed my collages to friends and relatives and they were amazed so I decided to advertise my work on the internet."
