Flake
This is an awesome slang word in spoken English. This is the exact kind of word native speakers use all the time. U ready?
The word is “Flake“. I’m not talking about a snowflake either.
If someone “flakes” on an appointment, it means that they originally agreed to doing it and then cancelled their plan at the last minute for no good reason.
If a person does this really often, you can call that person a “flake“. You can also call them “Flaky”
You can also say that someone “Flaked” or “Flaked out” on some appointment. They mean the same thing
.
Here are a couple of useful examples:
1.
He’s such a flake. That’s the 3rd time this week he cancelled our dinner plans at the last minute. If he tells you he’ll definitely go to your party, I wouldn’t trust him. Ask anyone who knows him. He’s a big time flake.
2.
.
I really should go and meet someone today. If I cancel again, they will think I’m flaky.
