Absolutely, yeah.. To have a name that means you are existing, and it's not important for only the people but also for plants, animals, and even things.

From the list abov, i love these names: Nora, Sarah, Merriam, zayneb, Mohamed, hamza.. Because they are the most popular names around me.

I would like to thank you for this chance to learn writing...

    Reading for Writing

in this reading , adapted from The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri, Ashima and her husband ashoke have a newborn baby . He was born in the United States. this conversation takes place in the hospital a few days after the baby`s birth

Ashima and Ashoke learn that in America A baby cannot leave the hopital without a name

But sir" Ashima protest " we can't name him ourselves" m "
Mr. Wilcox looks at the hospital birth certificate and looks at the couple
He looks at the nameless child . " i see" he says " Why" m
W"We are wating for a letter from my grandmother in India " says Ashima " she will name the baby . She gives the names for all her greatgranchild "m

The letter with the name is late. Ahima and Ashoke are not worried. They can wait . In India, parents take thier time , even years to find the right name . Besides, there are always pet names . A pet name is the name your family and friends call you . A Bengali 1 usually has both a pet name and a good name for use in the outside world .m
"Z"you can name him after yourself or one of your ancestors2" said Mr.Wilcox " It's a fine tradition
But this is not possible , Ashima and Ashoke think to themselves . This tradition - naming a child after a parent or grandparent - is a sign of respect 3 in America and Europe , but it doesn't exist for Bengalis. In Bangali families , individual name are scared 4. Bengalis cannot inherit 5 or share names

Mr.Wilcox sighs" You can name him 'Baby Boy' for now , but when he gets his name , you must go "to a judge and pay money to change the birth certificate . Think about it , I'll be back in a few hours"z

i1i Bengali: ( n) a person from Bengal m a place that is now partly in India and partly in Bangladesh ( adj) from or connected with Bengal
i2i ancestor: a family member who lived a long time ago
i3i respect : a feeling that you admire or have a high opinion of someone
i4i sacred: very special ; very important to someone
i5i inherit: receive from someone who died

Since I am login to the site by mobile I can't answer the questions using table, so I hope you can accept it as paragraph.

    Well....
The parents who can names their children in USA, and this should happen once the child borns , that means before he leaves the hospital.

But in Bengal culture, the parents take their time to choose the good name for their children wich can took even one year, and the grandparents should involve to choose both the good and pet name.

On another way the parents in USA culture can change their children's name through judges,

About bengal culture the article didn't say anything about this point but we can think that they don't need to change the name since they are taking their time to make one

Explaining Reasons complete these sentences . Compare answers with a partner

i1i Ashima and Ashoke have a problem because they

    Couldn't name their new child.

i2i The pernts cannot name this baby because they are waiting a letter which includesthe chosen name from grandma.
i3i The baby cannot leave the hospital because he didn't have a name yet so he can not get a birth certificate

i4i Bengali parents cannot name a child after another family member because each i didn't understand this Q ( I will say because of their culture) ,

i3i Your Turn how do you think Ashima and Ashoke's story will end?z
If they are worried about the money that they will pay for more hours sitting in the hospital more than their culture, i think they will choose a name and they will change it later. Or just keep it then let the family choose the pet name.

i4i Open for Discussion Think about these question i1i Do you think Mr.Wilcox understands Ashima and Ashoke? why or why not ?q

Yeah, i think he did understand them but the law is very important more than the culture in his opinion. I thought that he understood them because he tried to help them when he informed them that they can change it later.

i2i Why do you think Ashima and Ashoke want their grandparent to choose the child's name?z

They are following their traditional rules about naming the new child.

i3i why do you think Americans name their children very quickly?

I think this is the right thing, by the way the child came after 9 months so the parents has the time to start thinking about the name of upcoming child from the 5th month

What happens to a baby without a name?z
Baby without name means baby without birth certificate, meaning he is no one in the système.

i4i Who chooses name in your family ?

    Depends, usually the parents did.

Is there a special naming celebration ? Compare your family's tradition with Bengali traditions.z
    No, as I know

choose one question and write your answer.z

Hahahaha I should read before I answer.

    Thank you again.
